Perfect for salads and sandwiches! Red Creole Onion (Allium cepa) is a brilliant red short day type — best grown in the highlands and low lands of Uganda— with medium sized flattened bulbs. The flavor is pleasantly pungent and not too sweet. A good keeper! (110 days) Approx.4 months.

Planting and Harvesting Tips:red creole onions

Start seedlings in trays/nursery 5-6 weeks before transplanting. Keep trays at room temperature and do not allow to dry out. Transplant outside after the main garden when hardened, spacing 10-15 cm apart in all directions. Plants are shallow rooted and require fertile well-drained soil and constant surface moisture to thrive.

Allow tops to fall over naturally, then pull bulbs and let dry for two weeks. Watering prior to harvest makes pulling easier. After curing, store in a cool, dry location such as a root cellar.
